The UFC has released the official numbers from UFC 116 and I have to say Zuffa writes checks that make the banks bounce. According to www.mmaweekly.com the official gate attendance at UFC 116 was 12,740. From that 12,740 only 2,194 tickets were left unsold since the MGM was set up to seat 14,934.
So, according to the Nevada State commission just the gate receipts of 116 brought in .... wait for it....$4,053,990!!! Now, I know that is just intake and doesnt take into account how much they paid the fighters, the venue, the commission and so on.
So, as I normally do on any given morning when I get to my office and sit down at 6am, I start reading up on the blogs I have missed overnight. Yes, I am kind of addicted to reading blogs because it is what I do. I came across one blog written by Oliver Saenz of www.Fighters.com and it was about fighters intro music.
For many people they will remember this weekend for the NBA free-agent frenzy, the World Cup finals, or Lance Armstrong’s defeat in the Tour de France. But for many DC-area fight fans, they will remember a night of great professional boxing. “No Excuses,” presented by Ice Promotions and Valcourt Building Services, was held at the George Mason University Patriot Center on July 10, 2010. The eight-bout fight card featured many hometown favorites, including headliner Jimmy Lange (32-4-2, 23 KOs), co-main event fighter DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (37-13-1, 21 KOs), and female fighter Jennifer “The Bolivian Queen” Salinas (11-2, 4 KOs).

"The Barbarian Fight Club "Respect" event kicked off at 8pm at the sports complex in Ruther Glen VA. "Respect" featured a full night of fights with 17 fights on the ticket, and one title bout in the 185 lbs weight class. It was refreshing to see alot of new and very young talent on the ticket stepping into the cage for the first time, some of which have great potential and bright futures in the MMA world. The event was action packed evening for a complex full of MMA fans who got a dose of the full spectrum of MMA with submissions, TKO's, decisions, a draw, and even seeing the 185 lbs title change hands in the main event as Bill Bookwalter won the belt in the first 1st round as Justin Ayd gave up his back trying to defend against raining fists as The Manheim Strangler dropped bombs from the full mount, Justin was submitted shortly after by a rear naked choke. To see for yourself a recap of the nights events please visit mmafightpics.com for cage-side photos by Stephen Hansen.
